Gemma in Browser provides AI-powered summaries and question answering for the webpage currently open in Chrome.
Information we process
When you enable page context or automatic summarization, the extension reads the current webpage's URL, title, visible text, and limited page structure to answer your request. It does not access Chrome's saved browsing history and does not request the Chrome history permission.
The extension stores your settings, optional API configuration, local chat sessions, and local-model cache metadata in Chrome extension storage on your device. Your API key is used only to authenticate requests to the API endpoint you configure.
If you use the local-model mode, prompts and page context are processed in your browser. If you enable a remote OpenAI-compatible model, your prompts, selected chat history, and any enabled current-page context are sent to the API provider and endpoint you configured. That provider's privacy policy governs its handling of the data.

How we use and share information
We use information solely to provide the extension's page-aware AI features, maintain locally stored sessions and settings, diagnose reliability, and understand aggregate product usage. We share data only with (1) the remote AI provider you explicitly configure and enable, and (2) PostHog when analytics is configured, as described above. We do not sell personal data, use it for advertising, or use it to determine eligibility for credit, housing, employment, insurance, or similar purposes.
Your choices and retention
You can disable page context and remote models in the extension settings. You can delete saved chat sessions in the side panel and remove the extension to delete its locally stored extension data. Data retained by a remote AI provider or PostHog is subject to that provider's retention controls and policy.
Security and changes
We use HTTPS for remote AI requests (except explicitly allowed localhost development endpoints) and limit access to information needed for the stated functions. We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date.
